Research in Cell and Biological Systems
The Department of Cell and Biological Systems has a diverse group of faculty with the common link of performing groundbreaking research at the molecular, cellular, tissue and organismal levels. Many of the faculty in the department work in interdisciplinary teams comprising both basic science and clinical faculty who are associated with various departments and institutes at Penn State University.
The department has several research areas of interest:
- Inflammation and adaptive/innate immunity
- Virology – infection, pathogenesis, structure/function
- Organelles and intracellular trafficking
- Metabolism and cellular signaling
- Cardiovascular function
- Molecular and cellular neuroscience
The department also has strong interest in studying the molecular and cellular basis of disease mechanisms including cancer, cardiovascular disease, neurodegeneration and infectious disease.
We invite you to explore the faculty research lab websites to gain a better understanding of the specific research projects ongoing in the department.
