The mission of the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery is to provide optimal, safe care to the local and regional community; to train the surgeons and leaders of tomorrow in a culture of mutual respect and inclusion; to pursue impactful, collaborative research within the specialty; and to further Penn State Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery’s stature as a preeminent academic department.

Since its establishment by Dr. George Conner in 1972, what is now the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center has been dedicated to providing the highest-quality care for patients with diseases of the ear, nose and throat.

Led by nationally recognized physicians and educators, the department offers complete coverage of all otolaryngology subspecialties.

Patients receive care in the areas of hearing and balance disorders, including cochlear implantation; vocal and swallowing disorders; nasal, sinus and skull-base diseases; thyroid and parathyroid disorders; tumors of the head and neck, including cancer; pediatric ear, nose and throat problems; and facial plastic, cosmetic and reconstructive procedures.

Patients benefit from a multidisciplinary approach to their problems, as the department is associated with Penn State Cancer Institute and its Head and Neck Tumor Board.

The faculty are leaders in national scientific organizations and presenters at international medical conferences, and are committed to staying abreast of and being involved in the development of cutting-edge technology. The department is committed to continuously pursuing excellence through advances in otolaryngology research that translate into the latest and safest approaches to treatment and patient care.

In collaboration with referring physicians, the department is dedicated to providing excellent and comprehensive clinical care, as well as training and educating the next generation of outstanding clinicians and surgeons.
