Education in Urology
The Department of Urology’s objective is to educate the future leaders in urologic medicine with the urologic clerkship and residency program. Urology faculty engage in activities to provide medical students with educational and research opportunities. Notably, faculty mentorship in both clinical and basic sciences has resulted in students presenting in local, regional and national conferences with resultant journal publications. Faculty members' commitment to education is evident by certification in the Stanford Clinical Teaching Program and the Program for Education at the Harvard Macy Institute.
The department seeks to maintain and expand current avenues of integration into the medical student curriculum including serving as Medical Student Society Advisor, Problem Based Learning group leader, as well as lectures to all years of medical students.
The importance of educating the next generation of physicians extends to resident training. The residency is an entirely integrated five-year program strictly under urology. The Graduate Medical Education (GME) office has recognized that the combination of faculty growth and representation of all subspecialty areas of urology created an optimal training environment and thus afforded urology the opportunity to train three residents per year starting in July 2019.
