Education in Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics

For faculty in the Department of Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics (NET), research and education go hand in hand.

Student education is at the forefront of what we do. As such, our faculty contribute to the teaching of graduate students, medical students, MD/PhD students and students training to become physician assistants.

The department is involved in program direction.

• Dr. Pat McLaughlin directs the graduate program in anatomy, dedicated to the education of students, the teaching of gross anatomy and to the teaching of teaching.
• Dr. Yongsoo Kim directs the graduate program in neuroscience, which is designed to prepare trainees to succeed in the rapidly advancing field of neuroscience.
• Dr. Kirsteen Browning is co-director of the Medical Student Training Program, which supports and trains MD/PhD students to become clinician scientists.

Finally, most all students in training with NET faculty, regardless of program, submit predoctoral grants to the National Institutes of Health, and most of these grant applications have been successful – supporting the student’s thesis research, travel to scientific meetings, publication costs and, most importantly, beginning a record of extramural funding.
