I am interested in how peripheral tissues (GI tract, adipose tissue, muscle tissue) signal states of satiety to the central nervous system. This signaling plays a pivotal role in modulating key physiological and behavioral processes, including the regulation of food intake, susceptibility to substance abuse disorders, and overall energy expenditure. By investigating neuroendocrine pathways, hormonal mediators (e.g., leptin, ghrelin, myokines, and GLP-1), and neural circuits involved in reward and homeostasis, I aim to uncover how disruptions can be reversed pharmacologically or surgically.
