Animal Research Program

The Animal Research Program supports biomedical research by providing exceptional animal care, delivering state-of-the-art veterinary services, offering guidance for regulatory matters and supplying animal-use training. The program works closely with the committee that oversees animal research protocols.

Biosafety

Penn State College of Medicine is committed to preventing exposure to bloodborne pathogens through its policies, procedures and training. Resources are available as guidelines for maintaining biological safety. Approved meeting minutes from the Institutional Biosafety Committee can be viewed in SharePoint.

Center for Medical Innovation

The Center for Medical Innovation empowers researchers to make a positive impact on human health by advancing research into innovative products and services. Researchers can build strong industry partnerships and benefit from programs that equip them in innovation, entrepreneurship and commercialization.

Clinical and Translational Science Institute

Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute provides tools, services and training to make health research more efficient at Penn State. The institute is an advocate for translational science and is a bridge between basic scientists and clinical researchers.

Clinical Trials Support Office

The Clinical Trials Office enhances, fosters and promotes organized, high-quality clinical research by offering services such as protocol and budget feasibility assessment, budget preparation and negotiation, regulatory and Institutional Review Board submission and oversight, study coordinator services and clinical trial placement.

Conflict of Interest

The Conflict of Interest Program manages all disclosures for outside interests and activities for Penn State faculty, staff and students. The program maintains the University’s individual and institutional conflict of interest policies, guidelines and procedures, and strives to ensure compliance with all regulations.

Core Facilities and Research Resources

The Biomedical Core Facilities provide investigators facile, equitable access to leading methodologies in simple workflows with cutting edge instrumentation, expert guidance and professional support. The College of Medicine has both institutional facilities and departmental equipment.

Graduate Education

Graduate students in master's and doctoral programs have opportunities to work with dedicated mentors to address questions of critical importance in basic and translational research fields across the broad areas of life sciences (e.g., biomedical research, neuroscience) or public health sciences.

Human Research Protection Program / IRB

The Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) is the Institutional Review Board (IRB) office for Penn State and provides support for all university researchers, including those at the College of Medicine and Penn State Health. An IRB must review all research involving human subjects.

Postdoctoral Training

Supported by the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, the College of Medicine's postdoctoral program supports the training and education of postdoctoral scholars and fellows, promotes postdoctoral research accomplishments across the University and fosters a sense of community among our scholars.

Research Affairs and Sponsored Programs

The Office of Research Affairs oversees the proposal submission process and negotiates contractual terms and conditions of awards. The team assists researchers and staff with all pre- and post-award activities, including budget and grant development, cost recovery, compliance and institutional reporting.

Research Development

The mission of Research Development is to grow the College of Medicine’s research portfolio by increasing investigator competitiveness for securing external grants. Research Development routinely collaborates with other business units throughout Penn State to cultivate sponsored funding opportunities.
