Urology Chair's Message
In This Section
The Division of Genitourinary Surgery was founded in 1970 under the direction of Thomas J. Rohner, Jr., MD. The program was renamed the Division of Urology in 1971 with establishment of a residency program. The Urology Division was led by Dr. Rohner until 1999 at which time Ross M. Decter, MD, assumed the role of division chief. In 2015, Jay Raman, MD, became the third division chief of urology. Owing to substantial growth, the division was elevated to departmental status in 2021.
The Department of Urology is composed of 17 attending surgeons, 12 advanced practice providers (PA/CRNP) and 15 residents providing care across three different campuses within the Penn State Health academic health system. High-quality care is provided across the entire spectrum of the specialty including genitourinary oncology, kidney stone disease, benign prostatic disease, sexual dysfunction, male infertility, urinary reconstruction, female pelvic medicine and pediatric urology, as well as general urology services.
The department is committed to providing the highest quality of care to our patients. These efforts are tracked through performance metrics measured by the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program and Patient Safety Indicators where we excel compared to benchmarks.
