Giving Spotlight
Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Milind Kothari, former professor of neurology at Penn State College of Medicine and assistant dean for student affairs, and his wife Smeeta, we are able to annually recognize a medical student who has demonstrated excellence in the neurology clerkship, shown a passion for teaching and will be pursuing residency training in neurology with the Kothari Family Award for Excellence in Neurology. Dr. Kothari, right, is pictured here with a student at Match Day in March 2018.
Last year’s recipient, Sweta Joshi, MD ’24—now a neurology resident at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard—shared the following gratitude:
“My experiences growing up abroad are what inspired me to become a physician. I witnessed stark differences in the resources that were available, which inspired me to help contribute to build a more equitable world. Penn State College of Medicine was the perfect medical school for me to attend because underneath all of the medical education, there was a steady and strong foundation of humanism in medicine. This is what I hope to continue carrying with me throughout the rest of my career in medicine. I want to continue serving underserved populations both locally and abroad. Thank you again for your generous support.”
