Clinical Care in Obstetrics and Gynecology

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology offers a level of expertise and breadth of services not found anywhere else in central Pennsylvania. The department is recognized for:

  • Comprehensive, family-friendly pregnancy and childbirth services, earning designation as a Blue Distinction Center for Maternity Care by Highmark Blue Shield and a Baby-Friendly Hospital by Baby-Friendly USA.

  • The most modern Labor and Delivery Unit in the area at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital with the only Level 4 NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) in the area located directly above it.

  • A designation as a Center of Excellence for Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (COEMIGS) — this is one of the busiest robotic-assisted surgery centers in the nation.

  • Innovative gynecologic cancer treatment including promising new treatments through NRG Oncology multi-institutional clinical trials.

  • A full-service obstetrics and gynecology ultrasound facility, accredited by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM).

  • A Complex Fetal Care Center (CFCC) located at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center with an interdisciplinary team of specialists to deal with pregnancies requiring special care.

  • In vitro fertilization expertise, recognized by the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technologies among the top programs in the region.

  • A comprehensive fertility preservation program for all patients.

  • Internationally recognized treatment for polycystic ovary syndrome.

  • Multiple outpatient sites throughout the surrounding five-county area with offices in Dauphin, Berks, Lancaster and York counties.

The OBGYN department provides complete care for women’s health. The team includes OB-GYNs, gynecologists, urogynecologists, maternal-fetal medicine doctors, genetic counselors, nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, lactation specialists (IBCLCs), OB nurse navigators and clinical social workers.
