Biography
Dr. Sheryl Ryan is a professor of pediatrics, chief of the Division of Adolescent Medicine and board certified in pediatrics and adolescent medicine. Ryan is involved with several national societies and activities pertinent to pediatric addiction, including chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Substance Use and Prevention. In this role, she has authored and coauthored numerous clinical reports, position papers and technical reports about substance use and abuse related to children, adolescents and their families. Ryan attends and presents at regular Association for Multidisciplinary Education and Research in Substance use and Addiction meetings, and regularly represents pediatric interests on national panels and technical assistance projects, such as the National Academy of Sciences, American Academy of Pediatrics national conference and exhibition, National Quality Forum and the Grayken Center for Addiction at Boston Medical Center. She speaks at local, regional, national and international professional meetings on topics such as the medical consequences of substance use and abuse, specifically marijuana, and office-based Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) interventions. Ryan focuses her research on teaching and implementing SBIRT procedures in pediatric primary care settings, and she has published these findings in prominent medical journals.
