Hong-Gang Wang, PhD

I am the Lois High Berstler Professor of Pediatrics and a Professor of Cell and Biological Systems at Penn State College of Medicine. My research focuses on how autophagy, apoptosis, and other regulated cell‑death pathways shape cancer development, metastasis, and treatment resistance.

In my lab, we investigate how autophagosomes form and close, how autophagy and apoptosis intersect, and how tumor‑derived extracellular vesicles influence metastatic behavior and responses to immunotherapy. Our work has helped move fundamental discoveries toward clinical application, including a therapeutic strategy now being evaluated for children with refractory neuroblastoma.
