The Department of Cell and Biological Systems comprises a diverse collection of outstanding scientists who conduct basic biomedical and translational research at the molecular, cellular, tissue and organismal levels. We strive to build interdisciplinary teams of researchers that bring together both basic science and clinical faculty. The department provides outstanding training opportunities for graduate/medical students and postdoctoral fellows interested in pursuing a career in microbiology, immunology, and cell and molecular physiology. The department offers a faculty of international reputation along with modern, well-equipped laboratories in a beautiful setting conducive to outstanding academic achievement and research productivity. The outstanding faculty, postdoctoral scholars and graduate/medical students of the Department of Cell and Biological Systems are known for their major contributions to understanding the molecular and cellular basis for inflammation, adaptive/innate immunity, viral pathogenesis, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and neurodegeneration.

Members of the faculty have attained national and international recognition for their research endeavors. Our faculty are notable for their outstanding records of scientific publications, membership and leadership roles on national scientific review committees and advisory panels, appointments on editorial boards of leading journals, and strong extramural grant funding.
