Advanced Practice Provider Emergency Medicine Fellowship

The Advanced Practice Provider Emergency Medicine Fellowship at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is an 18-month-long program that admits two fellows per year.

The Emergency Medicine Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship is designed to prepare highly qualified nurse practitioners and NCCPA-certified physician assistants to become skilled, compassionate, and efficient emergency medicine providers. Through a blend of didactic education and hands-on patient care, fellows will develop advanced clinical skills and expertise in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. This distinguished fellowship fosters a seamless transition to practice by offering a multidisciplinary approach, collaboration with seasoned healthcare providers, and exposure to a diverse patient population.

Program Overview

Didactic and Clinical Education: The fellowship includes weekly 4-6 hour residency conferences and fellow-specific sessions. Fellows complete BLS, ACLS, PALS and ATLS certifications.
Clinical Experience: Fellows gain experience across all levels of emergency medicine acuity, including pediatric EM and the EM observation unit.
Unique Rotations: Specialty rotations, including Neurology, Obstetrics, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Critical Care, Trauma and Pre-Hospital Medicine, broaden fellows' clinical knowledge and foster interprofessional communication.
Event and Wilderness Medicine: Unique to Penn State Health, fellows provide medical support at Penn State football games and other events. An introduction to Wilderness Medicine features an overnight Appalachian Trail backpacking trip.
