Biography
Medical school: Penn State College of Medicine
Having lived abroad her entire life until college, Sarah is still surprised that she has stayed in one place (Hershey) for so long now! Sarah grew up in Perth, Australia, and lived in Holland and Oman. She went to college in Washington State, then took a year off to work in the service industry, and then applied and was accepted to an accelerated BSN program at OHSU. Afterward, she worked in the Operating Room as an OR RN at OHSU. However, she quickly realized she wanted to do more and applied to Medical School. She chose Penn State because it had a west-coast feel on the east coast. Everyone was friendly, and she was surprised how many people never left. Now four years into residency, and she is still here! Every weekend she is off she still travels, and she always surprises her co-residents with where she’s heading next. Sarah has a strong interest in global neurosurgery and will be spending two months performing research in Vietnam this year thanks to the AANS/Peds section international fellowship grant and Penn State Trout fellowship grant. Next year she’ll return home to Perth, Australia to complete a year of residency. Serendipitous! Sarah loves EDM music festivals and can usually be found at one. She thinks the attendings are just placating her, but sometimes thinks they enjoy the music she plays in the OR....
