Kevin Stierer Sr., MD, MMM, CPE

Dr. Kevin A. Stierer Sr. was appointed interim chair of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine in February 2026. Stierer previously served as the senior vice president for perioperative and procedural services and senior vice president for medical affairs at the University of Maryland as well as past chief of the division of cardiothoracic anesthesia at the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center. The board-certified anesthesiologist and certified physician executive has more than three decades of clinical leadership, academic scholarship and operational innovation.

Throughout his career, Stierer has been instrumental in optimizing perioperative workflows, integrating quality improvement methodologies and fostering high-reliability care practices across distributed healthcare systems. With extensive experience in anesthesiology and perioperative care, he has demonstrated a sustained commitment to enhancing system design, operational efficiency and multidisciplinary collaboration across complex clinical and academic environments.
