Welcome to the Penn State Hershey Clinical Simulation Center
The mission of the Penn State Hershey Clinical Simulation Center is to improve patient outcomes with effective programs that promote and enhance practitioner skills, clinical competence, teamwork, and interdisciplinary collaboration. To advance the field of healthcare simulation, the Center conducts innovative research into simulation theory, practice, and technology.
The Center opened our new facility on January 20, 2010. A brief video is available, detailing the areas of the new center. The Year in Review is a compilation of our activities for 2012, describing new courses, outreach activities and overall utilization statistics.

Current
Penn State Hershey Clinical Simulation Center is one of only ten institutions that have been accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. The Sim Center was approved in the areas of Assessment, Teaching / Education, and System Integration. There are only two other institutions that have accreditations in three or more of the categories.
The center is fully accredited by the American College of Surgeons as a Level 1 Comprehensive Education Institute. This 3-year accreditation from June 2010 through June 2013 is the highest level possible. Dr. Andreas Meier, then the Director of the Surgical Program, led the multi-departmental effort with institutional support from Dr. Rich Simons, Vice Dean of Education. Under the leadership of Dr. Peter Dillon, the Surgery Department demonstrated their achievements and vision in surgical simulation for Hershey Medical Center. In addition, Dr. Elizabeth Sinz, Medical Director of the Simulation Center, and Dr. W. Bosseau Murray, Associate Director, helped to convey the integration of surgical simulation within the entire scope of simulation-based healthcare education. Many other individuals contributed to the application, typical of the unified approach to healthcare education embraced by our institution.
The Center is also accredited by the American Society of Anesthesiologists as an Endorsed Simulation Program. Dr. Elizabeth Sinz, the Center's Medical Director, led the application process. This certification, granted from 2009 through 2011, recognizes the high quality of Anesthesia simulation programs and the dedication of resources needed to maintain and expand the programs. The Simulation Center is also authorized by this accreditation to offer continuing medical education credits to ASA members.
Historical
The Simulation Center has been accredited by the ACS since 2007, by the ASA since 2009, and by the SSIH since 2011.
Dr. W. Bosseau Murray was recognized as an Outstanding Mentor by the Penn State College of Medicine class of 2008.
Dr. Elizabeth Sinz (Medical Director, Simulation Center) is a Past President of the International Society for Simulation In HealthCare from Jan 2007 through Jan 2008.
