Application Process

All applicants must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)

Basic Eligibility Criteria for Allopathic US & Canadian
Graduate of a medical school in the US or Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Graduate Medical Education (LCME)
  • Passed USMLE (Steps 1 and 2) with no more than one total prior failure

  • Passed the Clinical Skills (CS) exam on first attempt

  • Personal statement which clearly identifies commitment to Family Medicine as their first and only choice of residency

  • Three Letters of Recommendation with at least one being from a family physician

  • Demonstrated clinical interest in Family Medicine or primary care

     

Selection Criteria for Osteopathic Graduates
  • Graduates of colleges of osteopathic medicine in the United States accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA)

  • COMPLEX scores passed. (No more than one total prior failure)

  • Personal statement which clearly identifies commitment to Family Medicine as their first and only choice of residency

  • Three Letters of Recommendation with at least one being from a family physician

  • Demonstrated clinical interest in Family Medicine or primary care

  • Completed a one-year transitional year

     

Selection Criteria for IMG's 
Highly qualified International Medical Graduates (IMGs) can bring strength and diversity to our program but must meet the residency's very high standards for admission.
  • Graduated from medical school within the past five years

  • Passed USMLE (Steps 1 and 2) with no more than one total prior failure

  • Passed the Clinical Skills (CS) exam on first attempt

  • Has had a minimum of three months clinical training in the US or Canada, or clinical experience elsewhere which clearly demonstrates an understanding and interest in primary care and Family Medicine in particular

  • Has three Letters of Recommendation of which at least one is from a family physician or primary care physician

  • A well-written personal statement which clearly defines ones interest and commitment to Family Medicine as their first and only choice of residency

Note: The program sponsors only J-1 visa.

 

Selection and Interview Process

  • We begin reviewing candidates when ERAS open in September. Once your completed ERAS application is received, qualified applicants will be invited for an interview until all available interview spots have been filled.

  • Interviews are by invitation only and are scheduled for most Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays from October through January. Interviewees are responsible for providing their own transportation to Hershey, although the program will pay for accommodations at a local hotel.
